    Oaxaca is arguably the cultural and gastronomical capital of Mexico. Its markets host some of the best and most imaginative crafts you will see in Mexico, and arguably the best Mexican food. On this tour, you will have the opportunity to get close and intimate with Oaxaca’s craftspeople as we visit the experts in their own shops, in their own towns – and, of course, get a sense of that wonderful Oaxacan cuisine.

    Itinerary

    Day 1 - Oaxaca City Arrival

    Arrival into Oaxaca and private transfer to your hotel in the historic center. The remainder of the day is at leisure to settle in and begin absorbing the city’s atmosphere. Depending on arrival time, take a first walk through nearby streets or enjoy an introduction to Oaxacan cuisine.

    Day 2 - Oaxaca City exploration

     Begin with a guided exploration of Oaxaca’s historic center, including key landmarks, local markets, and cultural spaces. Gain insight into the city’s layered identity through its architecture, daily life, and traditions. The afternoon is left open for independent exploration or relaxation.

    Day 3 - Mitla, Teotitlán, and Tule

     Travel into the surrounding valleys to visit Mitla, known for its intricate geometric stonework. Continue to Teotitlán del Valle to meet local artisans specializing in traditional wool weaving. End the day at the Tule Tree, a natural landmark of remarkable scale and presence.

    Day 4 - Monte Albán and artisan villages

    Visit Monte Albán, set high above the valley, offering both historical depth and sweeping views. Continue to a series of artisan villages, each known for a specific craft — from textiles to alebrijes and black clay pottery. The day provides direct access to workshops and the people behind them.

    Day 5 - Natural landscapes and mezcal

    Explore the striking formations of Hierve el Agua, where mineral springs have created petrified waterfalls. Continue to a local mezcal distillery for a guided tasting and insight into traditional production methods. Return to Oaxaca in the afternoon.

    Day 6 - Departure

    At the appropriate time, transfer to the airport for your onward journey. Depending on departure time, there may be an opportunity for a final stroll or meal in the city.
